002, written, Charter nerd having thoughts on magic

ooc: If you guys aren't already aware, I'm kind of an idiot. Hence I must request a minor retcon. Due to brain failure I've been operating along the line of thinking that goes Game setting = Nothing Works in terms of character powers when tagging. Hence I've probably mentioned in a couple of places that Lirael can't sense Death or the Charter as she normally would. Well, since her sister has erected a working Charter Stone that's obviously wrong and I must've been writing with my brain half shut down or something.

SO, basically I just ask all of you to completely ignore anything I've said that seems to mean that Lirael's power's aren't quite working because they are. That would be all, and now to the actual post!

[ Lirael contemplated making a video or at least a voice message for this, since it would probably give a more outgoing impression, but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. It was just so much easier to fall back to her old habit of writing notes. ]

The Old Kingdom, where I'm from, is separated from another land called Ancelstierre by a great wall. I've never been there myself but I've heard that Charter Magic doesn't work there.

Now I'm wondering, since Sabriel could raise a Charter Stone here, if the same could be done over there and if in that case magic would begin to work.

I've only ever known two kinds of magic to exist. Charter Magic and Free Magic. Free Magic is dangerous and shouldn't be used, though sometimes it's necessary. As I understand it the work of the Abhorsen requires it. That work being putting the risen dead back to rest.

It seems, however, as if there are a lot of other kinds of magic here, and I'd love to hear about them. Even, perhaps and if possible, learn how to use them myself.

I also know that death is a very different experience here than where I'm from, and that makes me wonder if it's also different from what I know in the places others have been taken from. If you don't know the facts I'd be just as pleased to hear of legends or beliefs.

Death as I know it is a cold and grey place with a great river running through it. It's divided into nine precincts separated by gates, and it's full of dead trying to make their way back to Life. What lies beyond the ninth Gate is a mystery, but if one passes beyond that there is no returning.

So, if there is magic where you're from, what is it like and do you think I could learn how to use it, and what do you know of what happens after death in your world?

We do, yes. They're not typically well known for, um, various reasons. But there are people in my world who research and work in those types of magics, yes.

[ Helios lets out a small hum. ] It's rather fascinating that it has such a broad spectrum of power. I don't think I've seen anything that has a hold of every single element. Perhaps maybe the philosophers stone.

It. It can be, yes. But all magic is like that, depending on what you do with it of course. A person's actions are more noticed and attention gathering than what they know usually. [ Raising the dead for example and disrupting the balance between heaven and earth. ]

As for the philospher's stone, hm. It's a stone capable of transmutating base metals into gold or silver, and it has the ability to heal all forms of illness and prolong the life of any person who consumes a small part of it. Other people have said that it can create perpetually burning lamps, transmutation of common crystals into precious stones and diamonds, revive dead plants, create flexible or malleable glass, and lastly create a clone or golem. But most of that is speculation, however I do think enchantments of objects did derive from it. So perhaps it once was real. [ He shrugs on his end. ]

No one really knows though, at least not in my world.

A clone is an exact replica of someone. Like, ah, a doppelganger. [ Helios taps his chin on his end, pausing to think about it a bit more. ] The philosopher's stone is indeed a powerful object. Which is why its whereabouts are kept entirely hidden from society.

Something like that. Many people argue that a clone doesn't have what one would call a soul. But, ah, I believe that's another topic for another day.

[ Helios looks pensive on his end. ] Well truth be told I-I think it might be possible at some point. I mean the malnosso have sent us back to our worlds before, if only for a day. And the battle dome makes it easy to see places from my world. I could certainly show you the castle!

And I'd be glad to show you around. It's always a treat for me as well to go visit the castle every once in awhile. [ Even if it's not the actual castle. Helios likes to show his home to people, it brings good memories for him. ]

I, um, think you'd like it there. If-if you could ever travel to other worlds you'd certainly be welcome to stop by and stay of course! [ He laughs happily at that. Such a similar prospect was made to three others before her. ]
folklorist: (Yes I do agree with that)

If this place can do it, I don't see why we can't! But I'll be sure to have a seat reserved for you and Sabriel. Maybe you both can come together.
folklorist: (Never seen anything like it)

Ah very true. Well people here were sent back to their worlds during an experiment. I'm sure that something like that can and w-will occur again. It would be nice to visit people after...all of this is done.
