[The orange glow of the sunset seems to glare as all of a sudden flames erupt around Lirael, creating a barrier between her and the water.


Out in the water there is a raft with several people on it, waving for her to jump in, and swim out to them...


...but Lirael may notice a cry from out in the woods. There are other people out there.


The fire is spreading quickly.]

[ There really isn't an option in this situation even if she knows that there is a chance that this is her only chance to get on that raft.

She spins around and starts running towards the sound of voices. ]

Over here!

[ She calls out as loudly as she can. ]

[spohkh]

[The voices start pitching to screams as they respond to her voice...


There is an opening in the wall of fire...]

[ There's not really much of an option, and she heads for the opening as fast as she can, mentally going through the spells she knows to see if any of them could possibly be useful right now.

It's hard to breathe, it's hard to see and she stumbles her way forward as fast as she can, coughing with tears streaming from her stinging eyes. It's about now that it really hits home just how much trouble she's in. ]

[The opening in the flames leads Lirael to an open glade... but it is a burning inferno.

There is a child who has obviously been separated from everyone else... And Lirael is faced with an awful choice...

...save the child, or the rest of the party? She has to be quick or the boat may not be there if she takes to long...

What will you do Lirael? Can you save everyone?]

[ She can't leave the child behind. He just cant, so she runs towards it with tears running down her cheeks that are not just from the smoke.

At this point, she has completely forgotten that this is just a test and not real. ]

[spohkh]

[The child is not far... but she's trapped under a smoldering log...

The screams coming from the other end of the forest have gone quiet... but the fire roared around them.]

[ It's not in her power to put out the fire raging around her, but he can put out the log, Charter marks flowing out of her mouth as she speaks them, weaving a pattern over the log to smother the fire on and around the log before attempting to lift it up enough for the child to crawl out, hoping that the girl is capable of moving enough on her own to manage it. ]
