I never really knew my parents. I didn't even know who my father was until recently.

My mother died when I was very little. I've often wondered what my life might have been like if she hadn't.

I've been thinking about the people I fought during the latest draft. The people I killed. I've been wondering if they have children too. If because of me those children will also grow up lonely.

I really wish Dog was here. She's my best friend from back home. She'd know what to say. She always does. It doesn't always make sense, but that doesn't really matter most of the time.

I don't know why I'm writing this. I suppose I just had to get it out, and I'm not very good at talking. Except for with Dog. I could talk to her for hours.

I miss her so much.

[ Lirael opens the door and lets out a surprised laugh. ]

[A white shiba wanders right on in, tail wagging]

I probably shouldn't be so surprised.

[ Why would a being like Saori be bound to just one form after all? ]

It's a good look on you.

Well, only you and your sister know about it.

[The tail thumps on the floor a few times.]

Is it a good look? Are you fond of dogs?

I always did like dogs, yes.

[ She closes the door and goes to sit by Saori on the floor. ]

Dog showed up in my life when I tried to make myself a Charter sending shaped like one actually.

[She wags her tail and looks up happily]

So, Dog isn't a real dog?

[She debates going in for the cute overload and face licking.]

[ Lirael is debating whether or not petting dog!Saori would be weird. ]

No, definitely not. I don't actually know what she is. Not sure if I want to know either.

[She says to herself 'screw it' and lays her head on Lirael's lap, almost demanding scratches and pets]

Does she like pets and hugs? Does she act like a dog?

[ Yeah, okay, that is just going to make her act on reflex so Saori is definitelly getting petted now. ]

Most of the time. Well, apart from the talking. Sometimes she does very not dog-like things though.

[Yea? Well, she's gonna lick your face while you pet her, then. Just a little lick or two]

Like what? I'd like to know more. Was she like...me?

[ It's a comfortingly familiar feeling, even if Saori is a lot more polite about it than Dog for obvious reasons. ]

No, she's... pretty different from you. A lot less polite, for example.
